Graduation Part II: How’d Things Go?

Graduation Part II: How’d Things Go?

This is our second blog post discussing ways for making sure your school’s commencements are the very best they can be. The first blog post can be found here.

Colleges and universities are in the height of graduation season—if your school’s commencement ceremony hasn’t just happened, it’s about to. And no one knows better than you the amount of planning and orchestration that goes into the event.

So if you’ve had your commencement already, how did things go? On the heels of your graduation event, it might be a good idea to conduct a review of it to shed light on what went well and what things could be improved upon the next time around.

  • How was the venue itself? Did the weather cooperate and, if not, did you have a backup locale? If you had to make a last-minute change, how smooth was the process?
  • How successful was the ceremony? Did it go off like clockwork, or did you have some scrambling, some hitches or “dead air” time?
  • How did your campus look overall? Did it leave a memorable, positive impression on graduates and guests?
  • Were there aspects that could have been handled more cost-efficiently without compromising quality? Did you come in over or under budget? Any parts of the day where you should have spent more or spent less?

While you certainly have your own opinion about how commencement went, broaden your perspective by polling others—staff who were in attendance, as well as a sampling of graduates and parents. This can be as formal as an anonymous online survey or as casual as picking up the phone and making some calls to ask. But since you can’t be everywhere at once at graduation, it’s good to get a view of it from others, too.

Knowledge is power, and conducting an analysis of your graduation day successes—as well as its shortcomings—will enable you to improve and refine what’s unarguably the most important day of students’ college careers.

Your facilities management service team should ensure pristine campuses, not only on graduation day, but every day. Let us remove the burden and plan a commencement ceremony that will leave your graduates and attendees with great memories to last a lifetime. If you need assistance in making your commencement ceremony picture-perfect, talk to us.
